The Ladywood Landmarks is a map-making arts project between Young People from Spring Housing Association, the Ruskin Mill Land Trust and Re. Future Collective. Our YP have spent the summer exploring heritage spaces and places in and around Ladywood and the Jewellery Quarter. From the New Standard Works to the the Icknield Port Loop, YP have photographed, drawn and printed fantastic architecture and objects of interest. They have plotted their favourite places onto a map to create heritage-filled walking routes for everybody to enjoy. The map will be produced in Ahmaric as well as English and will be available for you to take away from the New Standard Works, the Roundhouse, Newman Brother’s Coffin Fitting Works from September. We hope it will allow you to discover local landmarks from a new point of view and hopefully add some of your own!
We are also having an exhibition of works created across the project at the New Standard Works, with a launch event on Friday 7th September, 6-8pm. The exhibition will continue in the New Standard Works Heritage Hub for the duration of Heritage Week.
With thanks to the Heritage Lottery Fund, Spring Housing, The Ruskin Mill Trust, the Roundhouse, the Newman Brothers Coffin Fitting Works and Birmingham Oratory for their Generosity and support.
